Čerčany lies in the Sázava valley, 40 kilometres in the South East direction from Prague. Being situated on the main railway Praha – Tábor – České Budějovice – Linz, it represents an important tourist starting point to Posázaví, a beautiful region with wonderful nature and interesting castles, ruins and medieval churches. Čerčany with its less that 3000 inhabitants and hundreds of summer guests is a small town dispersed around the railway crossing. It has two visible dominants: the mill (modern high building) close to the railway bridge and the church in the fields above the town.
